Vault Room Renovation

By 51N4E

« The renovation of this small terraced house, along one of the « Reien » in the historical heart of Bruges, consists of reinterpreting the typical cramped back buildings as a spacious and generous lit winter garden.
The double-height space, enterily covered in timber planks, starts off as an arch wich gradually lifts asymmetrically towards the back, framing the tall tree of a neighboring garden. The old house is entirely renovated with partly new flooring and new colour schemes for facade, walls and ceilings. The custom made kitchen furniture with integrated fire place doubles as working area, becoming the new center of the house. »

Nathalie Dewez Lighting

Following her graduation in 2001 from the Interior Architecture department of the Ecole nationale des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in Brussels, Nathalie Dewez quickly found her way in Lighting Design. Nathalie brings delicate attention to the duality of « matter / non-matter » which she sees as being at the core of all lighting devices; with an emphasis on function as well as on the quality of light in both on and off situations.
Nathalie’s works are characterized by an economic use of means, a minimum use of components and a focus on ease of production.
Her light works carry an undeniable charisma. Just a few lines or surfaces bearing simple and effective geometry are enough to express delicate poetry.
Nathalie’s presence at numerous international shows and exhibitions has led to collaborations with a number of architecture practices as well as producers such as Ligne Roset (FR) and Habitat (UK).

Paper Whale

Believe it or not but this magnificient paper whale has been made by 5-6 years old kids from Brussel’s school Nos Enfants with their teacher Manu. Friends of us, architect Raphael Orts and his delightful wife Diana, took it back home at the end of the year to use it as a lamp in their wonderful house. I know, lots of superlatives here… :-)
